Prohibited carry-on items

Sharp objects, such as scissors and knives, and potentially dangerous weapons, such as golf clubs, are not allowed on board. It is prohibited by law to bring cutlery on board. Violations are subject to a fine of up to 500,000 yen.

Please check in the following items at the check-in counter.

  1. Cutlery and other objects that can be used as a deadly weapon by hitting someone hard

  2. Items with a noticeably sharp tip

  3. Other potentially deadly weapons

Carry-on baggage restrictions

Lighters

  1. One smoking lighter per person is allowed.

  2. Oil lighters and pre-mixing lighters (turbo lighters, jet lighters, blue flame lighters, and other types that emit blue or powerful flames) are not permitted in carry-on baggage.

Electronic-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and heated tobacco

(electronic-cigars, e-pipes, other personal vaporizers, IQOS, etc.)

Electronic-cigarettes with lithium-ion batteries are not permitted in checked baggage, so please include them in your carry-on baggage. However, it cannot be used on board.

Large tripods

Items longer than 60 cm in length when folded are prohibited on board.

Scissors

  1. You are allowed to bring on board an object with a blunt tip and a blade no larger than 6 cm.

  2. You are allowed to bring on board cosmetic scissors, such as small eyebrow and nose scissors, and scissors for portable sewing sets.

Liquids

  1. Tea, etc. can be brought on board. Please place liquids with the risk of leakage under the seat in front of you, not in the overhead bin.

  2. Cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (non-radioactive) are limited to 0.5 kg or 0.5 L per container, and up to 2 kg L per person.

The following cannot be checked in

Pets (animals) excluding guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs

We do not accept pets, including dogs, cats and small animals (rabbits, hamsters, etc.). Guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs are allowed on board. For more information, see Boarding Assistance.

Insects, Goldfish, etc.

Beetles, stag beetles, goldfish and turtles can be brought in provided they meet the following conditions and the size of a cage can be stored under the seat in front with no more than 3 animals inside.

  1. Do not disturb other customers. (Don't cry, do not smell, etc.)

  2. Packed in an appropriate container where they are unable to escape and no water leaks from the container.

  3. Keep out of sight by placing a towel or paper bag or such over the cage.

  4. No seawater in the container.

You are not permitted to check in or carry on board if it is equipped with a power source to operate the pump.

Carry-on and check-in precautions

Liquors and beverages

Bottled alcohol and beverages are fragile, so we recommend bringing them on board. Depending on the alcohol content of the liquor, it may fall under dangerous goods.

  1. Alcohol content of 24% -70%: maximum 5 L per passenger in checked baggage.

  2. Alcohol over 70% not permitted on board because it falls under dangerous goods.

  3. Alcohol must be sealed in retail packaging to carry on board. If the packaging is changed, it is not permitted on board.

Seafood, pickles, and other items with the risk of leakage

  1. When you check in seafood, pickles, etc., make sure they are fully sealed so there is no risk of leakage.

  2. Store items with the risk of water leakage under the seat in front of you, not in the overhead bin.

  3. Items that include seawater are not permitted as either checked baggage or carry-on baggage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Can insects and goldfish be included in checked baggage?

A. No, they are not permitted in checked baggage. You are allowed to bring on board about three beetles, stag beetles, goldfish and turtles provided they meet the requirements. For more information, check Insects and Goldfish.

Q2. Can I bring alcohol on board?

A. You may bring it onboard, however consumption on board is prohibited. Depending on the alcohol content of the liquor, it may fall under the category of dangerous goods. Please read the following precautions:

  1. For alcohol content of 24% -70%, the maximum of 5L per passenger.

  2. Anything with an alcohol content of 70% or more qualifies as a dangerous goods, so it is not permitted in either checked baggage or carry-on baggage.

  3. Alcohol must be sealed in retail packaging.
